Deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods rises to $800 mln in Oct – trade representative

KYIV. Nov 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Exports of goods from Ukraine in October fell by 8.2% compared to September, to $3.805 billion, while imports rose by 2.6%, to $4.615 billion, Deputy Economy Minister and Trade Representative Taras Kachka said.

"In addition, there was a decrease in exports and a fall in world prices for both food and manufactured goods," he explained the reasons for the decline in exports.

As a result, foreign trade deficit rose to $810 million in October from $354 million in September.

According to Kachka, the export of goods from Ukraine in October in natural terms amounted to 9.2 million tonnes, which is 4.6% less than in September, while imports decreased by 3.1%, to 2.01 million tonnes, 25% of its volume and 16% of its value fell on oil products.

"The largest drop in volumes (exports) is the mining and metallurgical complex. Exports of ore are 286,000 tonnes less than in September. Cast iron export was 127,000 tonnes less than in September," he said.

Kachka specified that in absolute terms, exports of these goods were as follows: ore – 1.06 million tonnes, which is the lowest figure since the beginning of the year, pig iron – 72,200 tonnes, and only the export of bars reached the pre-war level – 65,000 tonnes.

"In general, the trends in metallurgy, unfortunately, continue to be gloomy," summed up the sales representative.

Speaking of grains, he noted an increase in wheat exports in October by 9.7% – to 1.96 million tonnes and corn – by 2.7%, to 2.2 million tonnes, while rapeseed exports decreased by 23% – to 669,000 tonnes.

"We had an unpleasant replacement in the oil and fat industry in October. Exports of sunflower seeds increased to 308,000 tonnes from 180,000 tonnes in September. At the same time, oil exports decreased by 10.3%, to 454,000 tonnes," Kachka said.

According to him, the volume of exported meal increased by 9.8% – up to 390,000 tonnes.

Kachka specified that despite the decline in volumes, sunflower oil remained the leader in terms of revenue – $502 million, which is 14.9% less than in September.
