Deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods in first half of Sept 2022 down to $111 mln
KYIV. Sept 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The deficit of Ukraine’s trade in goods for the first half of September 2022 amounted to only $111 million compared to $1.05 billion in August, Deputy Economy Minister – Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka said on Facebook on Thursday.
According to him, in the first half of September, Ukraine exported products worth $1.818 billion, imported for $1.929 billion.
Kachka specified that the leaders of exports are traditionally sunflower oil ($230 million), corn ($174 million), rapeseeds ($166 million), wheat ($147 million).
"A new record for electricity is $131 million in half a month!" added the trade representative.
Regarding export volumes, he indicated that in the first half of September they reached 4.1 million tonnes, including 871,000 tonnes of ore, 805,000 tonnes of corn and 669,000 tonnes of wheat.
According to Kachka, the share of sea transport accounted for 1.997 million tonnes worth $662 million, which almost corresponds to the value of exports by road – $651 million, which weighs three times less – 585,000 tonnes.
"The EU continues to be the main export destination – $1.24 billion out of $1.81 billion. That is why we need economic integration into the EU internal market, as Ursula von der Leyen [the EC President] spoke about," the trade representative said.
According to the Ministry of Economy, in August 2022, exports of goods from Ukraine increased by 13.9% compared to July, to $3.363 billion, while imports decreased by 2.3%, to $4.416 billion. This led to a decrease in the deficit to $1.053 billion from $1.569 billion in July and $1.549 billion in June.
In natural terms, in August 2022, the volume of Ukrainian exports, according to the Ministry of Economy, increased by 25%, to 7.296 million tonnes, while imports decreased by 1%, to 1.961 million tonnes.
At the same time, according to the State Customs Service, in August the deficit of Ukraine’s foreign trade in goods amounted to $1.233 billion compared to $1.798 billion in July.
