Defense Minister: We're working to increase cash benefits for Ukrainian soldiers
KYIV. Dec 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov has said that the Ministry of Defense is working to increase cash benefits for Ukrainian soldiers, but a transparent system of military career management, which is tied not to a position, but to a military rank, should come to the fore.
"We are working to increase the money supply for our soldiers, but a mechanical increase in payments without changing the approach to working with personnel will not solve the existing problems, and there will not be enough money for this. A transparent system of military career management should come to the fore, which is tied not to a position, but to a military rank," he said during the "hour of questions to the government" in the Verkhovna Rada in Kyiv on Friday.
In his opinion, the base rate of monetary security is also tied to the military rank. Reznikov added that at the same time the staffing categories will be revised so that the work of lieutenants or captains is not performed by colonels.
"We will gradually increase cash benefits in order to make the wages of the military competitive in the whole economy. The goal is a fair, understandable system that will attract the best," Reznikov explained.
The minister informed that the implementation of this reform will take at least three years.
