Debt of regional gas suppliers to GTSOU exceeds UAH 9 bln
KYIV. Aug 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Operators of gas distribution systems have increased their debt to Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine LLC (GTSOU) to UAH 9.2 billion, including regional gas companies of RGC Group – up to UAH 6.7 billion, the company’s press service said.
According to it, in particular, in July regional gas companies owed GTSOU UAH 137 million for gas taken from the main gas pipelines for their production and technological outlays.
According to the company, the problem with the accumulation of debts by gas distribution system operators requires an urgent solution, since this has an extremely negative effect on the financial position of GTSOU and endangers the uninterrupted transmission of gas to consumers in the autumn-winter period.
GTSOU predicts that with the onset of a new heating season, the situation with the accumulation of debts by regional gas companies will worsen, therefore, before the onset of cold weather, it is necessary to introduce legislative amendments regarding clearing accounts for regional gas companies.
"This mechanism provides that part of the funds that regional gas companies receive from the population for the distribution service will be automatically recalculated to pay for gas to the GTS Operator. Consumer funds, which are regularly paid for gas distribution, should be used for their intended purpose, as determined by the tariff structure: to cover transportation and distribution costs in the gas market, and not fall into the pockets of private owners of regional gas companies," GTSOU General Director Serhiy Makogon said.
GTSOU ensures the functioning of the country’s gas transmission system, which is integrated into the European gas transmission system. From January 1, 2020, the company received the status of a licensed operator.
