Cygnet produces 20,000 tonnes of sugar this season

KYIV. Nov 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Cygnet agricultural company on November 5 completed the sugar-making season at its plant in the village of Andrushky (Zhytomyr region), which produced 20,200 tonnes of sugar out of 142,800 tonnes of sugar beet in 50 days of operation, according to the website of the group of companies on Monday.

"I believe that the main goals assigned to the sugar production department in 2021 have been achieved. The achieved productivity made it possible to ensure the rhythmic work of the sugar plant as a whole. This year, current consumption of natural gas in October amounted to 26.56 cubic meters per tonne of processed beets, while in 2019, the best year for this indicator – 26.90 cubic meters," the agricultural holding cites the data of chief engineer of the sugar plant Andriy Osypenko.

According to Cygnet, the sugar content of beets in 2021 was 16.8%, and the sugar yield was 14.1%.

"In connection with the higher cost of natural gas, we plan to switch to alternative fuel. Accordingly, in 2022 there will be a lot of work related to this area. It is also planned to carry out a number of works on a more in-depth repair of equipment and buildings of the sugar production department," Osypenko said.

Cygnet cultivates about 28,000 hectares in Zhytomyr and Vinnytsia regions, where it grows corn, soybeans, winter wheat, and sugar beets. The company’s assets include an elevator with the ability to store 60,000 tonnes at a time and a sugar plant with a processing capacity of up to 2,800 tonnes of beets per day (both located in Zhytomyr region).

The company also has dairy business that sells its products to local processors.
