Crops from 7% of fields left to be harvested by Ukrainian farmers – Ministry of Agrarian Policy
KYIV. Jan 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of January 6, 2023, Ukrainian farmers harvested 75.03 million tonnes of main agricultural crops from a total area of 17.96 million hectares, last week they harvested 700,000 tonnes of corn from 0.1 million hectares, the harvesting of which was previously stopped due to adverse weather conditions.
As reported on the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food on Friday, during the week, the total area of farmland from which the harvest increased due to the harvested corn by 1 percentage point (p.p.), to 93% of the previously planned area.
In terms of crops, the harvesting of wheat, barley, peas, rapeseed and sugar beets has been completed. Over the week, the area of harvested corn increased by 3 p.p., to 81% of the planned indicators, while the areas of harvested buckwheat (98%), as well as millet, sunflower and soybeans (99% each) did not change.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the final harvest of wheat this season amounted to 20.2 million tonnes from 5 million hectares, barley – 5.8 million tonnes from 1.7 million hectares, rapeseed – 3.2 million tonnes from 1.1 million hectares, peas – 269,000 tonnes from 118,000 hectares, sugar beet – 9 million tonnes from 180,000 hectares.
In addition, by January 6, a total of 22.1 million tonnes of corn (0.7 million tonnes more in one week) were harvested from 3.4 million hectares (0.1 million hectares more), 10.5 million tonnes of sunflower from 4.8 million hectares, 3.7 million tonnes of soybeans from 1.5 million hectares, 158,000 tonnes of buckwheat from 116,000 hectares, and 102,000 tonnes of millet from 44,700 hectares.
According to the ministry, the average yield for all crops in the current season was 4.64 tonnes per hectare, including corn – 6.48 tonnes per hectare, wheat – 4.05 tonnes per hectare, barley – 3.47 tonnes per hectare, rape – 2.86 tonnes per ha, soybeans – 2.43 tonnes per ha, peas – 2.28 tonnes per ha, millet – 2.28 tonnes per ha, sunflower – 2.17 tonnes per ha, buckwheat – 1.37 tonnes per ha, sugar beet – 50.1 tonnes per ha.
Farmers of Mykolaiv, Odesa, Chernivtsi and Vinnytsia regions have completed the harvesting of all crops. Most grain and leguminous crops were harvested in Vinnytsia region – 4 million tonnes, and their highest yield was recorded in Khmelnytsky region – 7.09 tonnes per hectare.
