Crimean University teacher notified of suspicion who called for genocide of Ukrainians – PGO
KYIV. Feb 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – An associate professor of the V.I. Vernadsky Occupation Crimean Federal University has been notified of suspicion for a propaganda campaign against Ukraine and calls for the genocide of Ukrainians, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) reports.
According to the investigation, “in speeches broadcast on Crimean television, he supported the actions of the aggressor state, justified the crimes of the Russian Federation and called for the genocide of the Ukrainian people,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said on its Facebook page on Wednesday.
In his speeches, the person involved, whose name is not called, “used the usual narrative of Russian propaganda, allegedly Ukrainians are “inferior people”, and denazification was called the main goal of Russian aggression against Ukraine. Thus, this “associate professor”, being a public person influencing the audience, justified the actions of the enemy and turned the citizens of Ukraine into a legitimate and necessary target for destruction,” the message says.
Under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv-based prosecutor’s office for the autonomy, he was notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 442, Part 6 of Article 111-1, Article 436, Part 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The teacher faces up to 12 years in prison.
Pretrial investigation and operational support is conducted by the SBU.
In 2014, after the annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the Russian authorities liquidated the V.I. Vernadsky Ukrainian Taurida National University and created the V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University in its property complex.
