Crimean 'minister' to be tried in absentia in Ukraine for providing logistics for transportation of Ukrainian grain by occupiers
KYIV. Dec 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The prosecutor’s office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, having completed the pretrial investigation, sent a case to court on charges of the occupation "Minister of Agriculture" of providing logistics for the transport of Ukrainian grain by the invaders through the peninsula.
"The prosecutor’s office of the autonomy sent an indictment to the court against the occupation "Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea". His actions are qualified on the basis of collaboration activities (Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for up to 10 years in prison," the prosecutor’s office of the autonomy said on Facebook on Monday.
According to the prosecutor’s office, since the occupation of the peninsula in 2014, the accused has been actively building a career in the illegally created authorities of the occupying state, and in May 2022, by decree of the head of the occupation administration of Crimea, he was appointed to the post of "Minister of Agriculture."
"It is within the competence of the said "minister" to ensure the logistics chains for the transportation of Ukrainian grain looted by the occupiers through Crimea. Thus, the suspect took up a position related to the performance of organizational, administrative and economic functions in an illegal state authority on the temporarily occupied peninsula of Crimea," the prosecutor’s office said.
