Court arrests U.S. citizen, Ukrainian woman who planning attempt on Minister of Agrarian Policy Leschenko
KYIV. Nov 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Pechersky District Court of Kyiv has taken into custody for two months a U.S. citizen and a Ukrainian citizen, who were detained the day before on suspicion of organizing an attempt on the life of Minister of Agrarian Policy Roman Leschenko, the National Police told Interfax-Ukraine.
"The court ruled to impose a measure of restraint on the U.S. citizen and the citizen of Ukraine in the form of detention for 60 days," the National Police said.
Earlier, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrsky said at a briefing that the U.S. citizen and the Ukrainian citizen were planning the assassination of Minister of Agrarian Policy Roman Leschenko due to his activities in 2018.
Leschenko, who was present at the briefing, said: "This has nothing to do with my public service. This is a civil dispute."
"For me, this is a certain shock. The situation in 2018 is purely civil in nature, from the point of view of fraudulent actions of the U.S. citizen not only in relation to me, but also in relation to other agrarians. For all blackmail and civil lawsuits, all courts were won," the minister said.
