Corn on 30% of sown area left to be harvested by Ukrainian farmers – ministry
KYIV. Dec 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of December 16, Ukrainian agrarians harvested 69.92 million tonnes of major agricultural crops from a total area of 16.85 million hectares, while for the period of December 9 through December 16, 1.4 million tonnes were harvested from 1 million hectares, including corn – 18.4 million tonnes from 2.9 million hectares (70% of the sown area).
As reported on the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food on Friday, during the week the total area of farmland from which the harvest increased by 1 percentage point (p.p.), to 88% of the previously planned area.
In terms of crops, the harvesting of wheat, barley, peas, rapeseed has been completed, and this week the harvesting of sugar beets has been completed. During the week, the volumes of harvested sunflower, buckwheat and millet (98% of sown areas) did not change, but increased by 1 p.p. for soybeans to 99%, and by 4 p.p. for corn to 70%.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the final harvest of wheat this season amounted to 19.4 million tonnes from 4.7 million hectares, barley – 5.6 million tonnes from 1.6 million hectares, rapeseed – 3.2 million tonnes from 1.1 million hectares, peas – 261,000 tonnes from 115,000 hectares, sugar beet – 9 million from 179,000 hectares.
In addition, by December 16, a total of 18.4 million tonnes of corn (1.2 million tonnes more in one week) were harvested from 2.9 million hectares (0.1 million hectares more), 10.1 million tonnes of sunflower (0.1 million tonnes more) from 4.6 million hectares, 3.7 million tonnes of soybeans from 1.5 million hectares (unchanged), 157,000 tonnes of buckwheat from 115,000 ha (unchanged), and 100,000 tonnes of millet from 43,000 ha (unchanged).
According to the ministry, the average yield for all crops in the current season was 4.56 tonnes per hectare, including corn – 6.27 tonnes per hectare, wheat – 4.12 tonnes per hectare, barley – 3.51 tonnes per hectare, rape – 2.89 tonnes per ha, soybeans – 2.42 tonnes per ha, peas – 2.34 tonnes per ha, millet – 2.3 tonnes per ha, sunflower – 2.18 tonnes per ha, buckwheat – 1.37 tonnes per ha, sugar beet – 50.0 tonnes per ha.
The agrarians of the Mykolaiv, Odesa and Chernivtsi regions have completed the harvest of all crops. More grains and leguminous crops were threshed in Vinnytsia region – 3.9 million tonnes.
