Contract with UK provides for solution of one of tasks of supplying air defense for Ukraine – Reznikov
KYIV. Dec 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – One of the contracts between Ukraine and Great Britain provides for the solution of the problem of providing air defense for Ukraine, said Defense Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov.
"This is a priority, and therefore we are talking about the missile program, we have it spelled out until 2032. Of course, this requires funds, but today we are making a decision in some areas with our partners, one of the contracts with the United Kingdom provides just a decision of one of these tasks," Reznikov said during the "hour of questions to the government" in the Verkhovna Rada in Kyiv on Friday.
At the same time, he stressed that the main stake should be on the Ukrainian military-industrial complex, which is capable of making modern missiles and anti-aircraft missile systems.
"Yesterday I already had one of the meetings with our leading enterprises, such as state-owned enterprise Kyiv State Design Bureau Luch. With Mr. Korostylev, we were speaking that the state should invest in its own military-industrial production, a complex, so that we are absolutely independent even from our friendly partners. We must retain our own strategic independence. We are working on this. The main need is a large amount of money, and here I hope for the support of the parliament," the minister said.
