Contract with Alstom to supply locomotives to Ukrzaliznytsia to be signed by year end – Kubrakov

KYIV. Nov 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A contract with the French concern Alstom for the supply of 130 electric locomotives to Ukrzaliznytsia will be signed by the end of this year, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov believes.

"We already have a government resolution, an intergovernmental agreement has been signed. We are moving towards signing a real contract. I am sure it will be signed by the end of this year," the minister said during the Big Construction: New Ukrzaliznytsia forum.

As Kubrakov noted, the French side is meeting halfway and "moving towards localization."

Earlier, Alstom announced its readiness to sign commercial agreements for the supply of 130 electric locomotives to Ukrzaliznytsia in October 2021.

As reported, Ukraine and France in May signed a framework intergovernmental agreement on financing the supply by Alstom of 130 heavy-duty electric locomotives for Ukrzaliznytsia worth up to EUR 900 million. The document was ratified by the Verkhovna Rada on July 1, 2021.

Alstom is one of the world leaders (along with Siemens and Bombardier) in the production of power equipment and rail transport. It operates in more than 70 countries and employs about 70,000 people.
