Consumer confidence index in Ukraine up to 73.2 p. in July – study
KYIV. Aug 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The consumer confidence index of Ukrainians improved by 1.1 points in July to 73.2 points on a 200-point scale, according to a study by the Info Sapiens agency.
"The main indexes stabilized in July, and the changes were statistically insignificant compared to June 2022. The index of the current situation significantly slowed down the pace of decline, and the index of economic expectations even showed an upward trend. At the same time, expectations of unemployment, inflation, and devaluation are deteriorating," Info Sapiens analysts comment.
"Index of the Current Situation has decreased and equals 37.2, which is 1.1 p. lower than in June. The components of this index have changed as follows: Index of Current Personal Financial Standing (х1) equals 30.7, which is 2.9 points lower than the indicator in June; Index of Propensity to Consume (х5) increased by 0.8 p. to the level 43.8," the report says.
"In July, Index of Economic Expectations (ІЕE) increased by 2.5 p. and equals 97.2. The components of this index have changed as follows: Index of Expected Changes in Personal Financial Standing (х2) equals 78.8, which is 7.7 points higher than in June; Index of Expectations of the Country’s Economic Development Over the Next Year (х3) in July equals 79, which is 2.2 points higher than in previous month; Index of Expectations of the Country’s Economic Development over the Next 5 Years (х4) decreased by 2.5 points compared to last month and equals 133.9 p.," it reads.
"In July, the indicator of Index of Expectations of Changes in Unemployment has increased by 3.7 points and equals 146.4. Index of Inflationary Expectations increased by 0.6 point and equals 183 p. Expectations of Ukrainians regarding the hryvnia’s exchange rate in the coming three months have worsened: Index of Devaluation Expectations increased by 5.4 p. and equals 157.5," the agency said.
The Consumer Confidence in Ukraine survey was conducted by GfK Ukraine since June 2000. From 2019 this project is provided by Info Sapiens. From January 2009 consumer confidence survey is conducted on a monthly basis. The poll involves 1,000 individuals aged 16+. The margin of error is 3.1%.
