Constant terror against civilians is Russia's apparent rejection of genuine negotiations – Zelensky
KYIV. Oct 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the terror against the civilian population indicates Russia’s refusal from peace negotiations.
"This night’s strikes continued a series of Russian missile strikes on Zaporizhia that this week alone, since October 3, have already killed at least 43 people," he said in a video message on Sunday.
"And there were also strikes on Kharkiv, on the cities of Donbas, other cities of Ukraine… There were also strikes by Iranian drones, airstrikes. The vast majority of them are for the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine, for civilians," he said.
In his opinion, "constant terror against the civilian population is Russia’s obvious rejection of genuine negotiations."
"Terror is a crime that must be punished. Terror at the state level is one of the most terrible international crimes, threatening not only one person in the world, but the entire international community," he said.
"We need official recognition of Russia as a terrorist state, we need restrictions on any economic contacts with any Russian subjects. We need a clear condemnation at all levels of Russia’s every escalatory step – from terrorist strikes to a criminal attempt to annex our territory. The corresponding resolution will be considered by the UN General Assembly one of these days. We will see by voting who and how really treats terrorists," Zelensky said.
He urged "to speed up the provision of effective air defense systems to Ukraine. It is negotiations on the provision of such air defense systems, namely negotiations on increasing defense, political and financial support for Ukraine – this is the only negotiation format that can really bring peace closer."
He thanked "everyone who helps us resist terror. I thank everyone who fights and works for the return of peace to Ukraine and for every Ukrainian, for guarantees of the right to life and security. Eternal memory to all victims of Russian terror."
