Chinese Foreign Ministry: ICC issuing arrest warrant against Putin, should 'avoid politicization and double standards'
KYIV. March 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday called on the International Criminal Court (ICC), which issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin, to uphold an “objective and impartial stance” and “avoid politicization and double standards,” CNN said.
“The International Criminal Court should uphold an objective and impartial stance, respect the jurisdictional immunity enjoyed by the head of state in accordance with international law, exercise its functions and powers prudently by the law, interpret and apply international law in good faith, and avoid politicization and double standards,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin told reporters during a regular briefing.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is due to arrive in Moscow. He will be the first world leader to meet directly with Putin since the ICC issued an arrest warrant for the Russian president.
