Case sent to court on charges against 10 Russian servicemen who tortured residents of Bucha – PGO

KYIV. Sept 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – An investigation has been completed and a case has been sent to court on charges against 10 Russian servicemen who beat, tortured and threatened to kill civilians in Bucha, Kyiv region, during the occupation, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) reports.

"Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Bucha District Prosecutor’s Office, in the course of a special pretrial investigation, indictments were sent to court against ten servicemen of the 64th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Ground Forces of the Russian Armed Forces as part of the 35th combined arms army on facts of ill-treatment of the civilian population and other violations laws and customs of war," the Prosecutor General’s Office said on the Telegram channel on Friday.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the investigation found that during the occupation of Bucha in March 2022, the Russian military held civilians hostage who did not participate in hostilities and did not have weapons, and they did not supply the detainees with food and water.

"The accused deprived people of the opportunity to move freely, forced them to their knees, blindfolded them with adhesive tape and rags, tied their hands with plastic clamps. The victims were threatened with murder and purposefully shot in their direction," the report says.

Also, as noted in the prosecutor’s office, the Russian military, in order to obtain information about the location of the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and territorial defense, and sometimes for no reason, inflicted bodily injuries on civilians.

"People were beaten with fists on the body, as well as with the butt of weapons on the legs, toes and chest. In addition, the invaders robbed the local population, taking personal belongings and household appliances," the report says.
