Canada to send 40 sappers to Poland to train Ukrainian military
KYIV. Oct 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand said during a visit to Warsaw that approximately 40 employees of the Canadian sapper troops will go to Poland to train the Ukrainian military.
"Canada is sending about 40 soldiers of engineering troops to Poland, a NATO ally, to train Ukrainian sappers in mine clearance, engineering intelligence, and explosives work, the head of the Canadian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday," the Associated Press reports.
Anand noted that the servicemen will begin training in Poland in the coming weeks.
The Defense Minister also signed a memorandum of understanding in Warsaw to strengthen defense cooperation between Canada and Poland.
In addition, Anand announced plans to announce additional military assistance to Ukraine in the near future.
