Cabinet proposes to NSDC to impose sanctions in connection with opening of so-called Consul of Nicaragua in Crimea

KYIV. Nov 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine proposes to the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) to apply sanctions in connection with the opening of the so-called Consul of the Republic of Nicaragua in Crimea.

"Considering the unlawful and inconsistent with Ukraine appointment of the so-called honorary consul of the Republic of Nicaragua in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, proposals on the application for a period of five years of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) to individuals according to the list are to be approved and submitted in accordance with Part 1 of Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine ‘On sanctions’ within three days for consideration by the National Security Council and Defense of Ukraine," government decree No. 1348 of October 28 says.

It is not specified in the document to whom exactly it is proposed to impose sanctions.

As reported, in November 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed a strong protest in connection with the illegal and uncoordinated visit of the Ambassador of Nicaragua to the Russian Federation Alba Azucena Torres to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea for the presentation of the so-called "Honorary Consul of Nicaragua in the Russian Federation with a residence in Simferopol" Oleg Belaventsev consular patent. At the same time, Ukraine began the process of applying sanctions in accordance with Ukrainian legislation.
