Britain does not plan to send fighter jets to Ukraine in short term, but nothing can be ruled out – defense minister
KYIV. Feb 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Ben Wallace said there are no plans to send fighter jets to Ukraine in the “short term”.
At the same time, in an interview with Sky News, Wallace said the only thing he has learned from this conflict is that nothing can be ruled out.
According to the head of the British defense department, the UK has provided Ukraine with about 200 tanks and helicopters, while the training of service personnel and the provision of appropriate capabilities were mandatory. In the case of fighter jets, that would mean sending hundreds of people to Ukraine, and the West is not going to send troops into Ukraine on such a scale, Wallace said.
When asked if he was worried about the supply of weapons and ammunition in the UK after the provision of military assistance to Ukraine, the minister replied in the negative, because the government has already begun to place orders for their replenishment. The UK has started work to make sure we have a supply chain or find alternative sources, he said.
Wallace said there are also plans to increase ammunition production.
Earlier, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson said that the UK should “melt the ice” and provide Ukraine with Typhoon fighters.
