Blinken says Russia prepares action plans against Ukraine

BRUSSELS. Dec 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday announced the presence of information indicating that Russia is developing plans against Ukraine.

"The United States is deeply concerned by evidence that Russia has made plans for significant aggressive moves against Ukraine and will respond with a range of ‘high impact’ economic measures if Moscow invades," he said.

In his opinion, a similar scenario of Russia’s actions was observed in 2014.

"Russia has stepped up planning for potential military action in Ukraine, including positioning tens of thousands of additional combat forces near the Ukrainian border," he said.

He said that in recent weeks, there has been a more than tenfold increase in propaganda against Ukraine on social networks to the level that was last observed before the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014.

At the same time, he said that he did not know whether the Russian leadership had made the decision to invade Ukraine, however, in his opinion, Moscow had used means that, if a decision was made, would allow a quick start of such an operation.
