Blinken calls on G20 countries to advocate for extension of Black Sea Grain Initiative
KYIV. March 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday at a meeting of G20 foreign ministers called on its participants to contribute to the extension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
“It is imperative the G20 speak up on behalf of extending and expanding the grain initiative to strengthen food security for the most vulnerable,” the Western media quoted Blinken as saying.
On July 22, 2022, with the participation of the UN, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine, documents on the creation of a corridor for the export of grain from three Ukrainian ports – Chornomorsk, Odesa and Pivdenny – were signed in Istanbul. At the end of February 2023, it was reported that the volume of Ukrainian food exports under the Grain Initiative exceeded 22 million tonnes.
The document expires on March 18 this year.
