Biden extends state of emergency due to Russia's war against Ukraine for year – White House
KYIV. March 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – U.S. President Joseph Biden has extended the state of emergency for one year due to the threat to U.S. national security and foreign policy posed by the actions and policies of individuals who undermine democratic processes and institutions in Ukraine, threaten its peace, security, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and also contribute to the misappropriation of its assets.
As reported on the White House website on Wednesday, the state of emergency was declared on March 6, 2014 by Executive Order No. 13360, and then its effect was repeatedly expanded in connection with Russia’s actions in relation to Ukraine with additional measures in 2014, 2018 and 2022.
“The actions and policies addressed in these Executive Orders continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States… must continue in effect beyond March 6, 2023. Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for one year the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13660,” according to the statement.
