Belarusian Defense Ministry denies mobilization taking place in Belarus
MINSK. April 5 (Interfax) – The Belarusian Defense Ministry has dismissed as rumors the claims that mobilization is taking place amid the ongoing combat readiness check in the Belarusian Armed Forces.
“I’d like to prevent various kinds of conjecture and rumors about mobilization. This is a scheduled check. Such checks are held every year on the orders of either the head of state, the state secretary [of the Belarusian Security Council] or the defense minister,” military commissioner for the Brest region Oleg Konovalov said on the Belarusian state-run television channel Belarus 4 commenting on the surprise readiness check in the Belarusian Armed Forces.
On April 3, The Belarusian Defense Ministry said that the preparedness check began in the Belarusian Armed Forces on orders from Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
“This is a comprehensive process, which allows for the assessment of commanders’ ability to control subordinate military units and detachments on high alert, and the readiness of military units to accomplish their missions on time,” it said.
The State Secretariat of the Belarusian Security Council supervises the check.
