Baltic countries, Poland sign transborder cooperation agreement with Ukraine
TALLINN. May 6 (Interfax) – The interior ministers of the Baltic countries and Poland have visited Ukraine and signed a multilateral agreement on cooperation in the prevention of transborder crime and the resumption of Ukrainian Interior Ministry operations upon the end of hostilities.
Estonia will continue to give full support to Ukraine, the Estonian Interior Ministry’s press service quoted Interior Minister Kristian Jaani as saying on Friday. He said that included direct political and practical, including humanitarian, support for Ukraine, assistance in the post-conflict recovery, and harsh sanctions against Russia.
Estonia will wholly support the EU-candidate status of Ukraine, Jaani said.
About 36,000 Ukrainian refugees are currently staying in Estonia, the minister said. Estonia’s humanitarian assistance has exceeded EUR16 million, including support for civil society and the private sector, he said.
The Interior Ministry has provided Ukraine with sea rescue and sapper suits, folding beds, tents, generators, VoIP phones and other supplies. "We are ready to deploy sappers with 48-hours’ notice," Jaani said.
