Azerbaijan imported 769 mcm of gas in Jan-Nov, over 91% from Turkmenistan

BAKU. Jan 18 (Interfax) – Declared imports of gas to Azerbaijan rose 1.7-fold year-on-year in January-November 2022 to 768.533 million cubic meters, the Azerbaijani government told Interfax.

The value of the gas imported into Azerbaijan as declared by the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee in January-November rose 5.2-fold to $91.7 million

Turkmenistan accounted for 91.4% of the gas imported by Azerbaijan in January-November at 702.442 mcm for $89.2 million. Imports from Iran totaled 66.091 mcm for $2.509 million.

Declared imports of gas to Azerbaijan totaled 510.565 mcm in 2021, up 3.8-fold from the previous year, for $19.4 million, up 3.8-fold. All imports came from Iran.

Iran began transporting gas received from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan in January 2022 in line with a trilateral swap agreement. The agreement stipulates supplies of up to 1.5-2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas to Azerbaijan through Iran per year.

Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov and Iranian Oil Minister Javad Oji signed a memorandum of understanding in Baku at the beginning of June 2022 in line with which supplies of gas to Azerbaijan from Turkmenistan through the territory of Iran will double.
