Azerbaijan cuts wheat imports 6% in 7M, boosts fruit exports by third

BAKU. Sept 15 (Interfax) – Wheat imports to Azerbaijan decreased 5.9% year-on-year to 408,800 tonnes in January-July 2021, the State Statistical Committee told Interfax.

The total value of wheat imported to the country was $103.772 million, up 10.4%.

Azerbaijan additionally imported 189,100 tonnes of sugar and raw sugar in the reporting period, down 0.4%, for $87.103 million, up 34.5%; 77,761 tonnes of vegetable oil, down 7.7%, for $106.555 million, up 45.6%; 8,732 tonnes of tea, up 3.9%, for $36.947 million, up 8.5%; and 9,051 tonnes of butter, other dairy fats, and pasta, down 12.1%, for $44.916 million, down 11.9%.

The country also purchased 3,599 tonnes of cattle meat, down 42.8%, for $13.722 million, down 42%, and 15,871 tonnes of poultry meat and products, down 19.2%, for $20.037 million, down 11.9%.

In addition, the country imported 79,480 tonnes of fruit, down 2%, for $74.659 million, down 0.1%; 29,546 tonnes of vegetables, up 43.3%, for $14.948 million, up 34.4%; and 104,000 tonnes of potatoes, up 14.1%, for $25.997 million, up 4.6%.

Azerbaijan exported 138,600 tonnes of vegetables in 7M, down 22.3%, for $141.637 million, down 20.9%; 122,000 tonnes of fruit, up 33%, for $150.132 million, up 3.5%; and 91,813 tonnes of potatoes, up 12.9%, for $39.851 million, up 18.1%.

Azerbaijan also supplied 40,134 tonnes of sugar abroad, up 1.8-fold, for $20.804 million, up 2.2-fold, and 7,860 tonnes of vegetable oil, up 2.6%, for $9.806 million, up 49.5%.

The country additionally exported 7,845 tonnes of fruit and vegetable juices, up 15.9%, for $9.558 million, down 0.3%; 140,500 decaliters of natural grape wines and must, up 11.3%, for $2.180 million, up 15%; 4,480 tonnes of canned fruits and vegetables, up 18.4%, for $5.065 million, up 6.9%; and 1,436 tonnes of tobacco, down 43.2%, for $3.666 million, down 39.2%.
