Austrian carrier ÖBB RCG transports 580,000 tonnes of Ukrainian grain since start of war

KYIV. Sept 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Austrian freight operator ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has exported 580,000 tonnes of Ukrainian grain cargo since the start of the Russian full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, while only in August it transported 145,000 tonnes of grain.

According to the carrier’s website, at the end of August, it and Ukrzaliznytsia created a working group, which will allow increasing the pace of exports by optimizing data exchange between the carriers and coordinating the loading of transshipment capacities.

"Due to the geographical location of grain processing companies, most of the deliveries in August were sent to Hungary, followed by Germany, Italy and Romania, as well as the Netherlands. On these routes, RCG grain carriers leave through four border crossings: the Ukrainian-Slovak border through Chop, the Hungarian-the Ukrainian border Zahony, the Ukrainian-Romanian border Reni, as well as the Ukrainian-Polish border Chiriv," the operator specified.

In addition, with the beginning of Russian aggression in Ukraine, RCG developed the GrainLane online agricultural platform, which connects Ukrainian farmers with retailers, consumers and logistics service providers. Currently, more than 1,000 registered users sell more than 200,000 tonnes of grain, soybeans and dry corn on it.

As reported, in June, the European Commission, together with V_labs and RCG, launched the GrainLane trading platform, which will help optimize grain exports from Ukraine to EU countries. It was indicated that this communication is especially relevant for grain exports from Ukraine by land transport, as it allows forming new business relations and supply chains.
