KYIV. Sept 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On Tuesday night, at the UN Security Council (UNSC), Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, proposed to create a Nuclear Safety and Security Protection Zone (NSSPZ) on the basis of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (NPP).
“I have just addressed the UNSC and launched a proposal to create a Nuclear Safety and Security Protection Zone (NSSPZ) in Zaporizhia,” he said on his Twitter.
Grossi noted that this is based on the findings from IAEA mission to the power plant, outlined in IAEA new report.
As reported, on the evening of September 6, the IAEA published a report on a visit to the Russian-occupied ZNPP, in which it declared its readiness to urgently begin consultations on the establishment of a nuclear safety and protection zone at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant occupied by Russian troops.
