Astarta plans to sow 1.3% more areas in spring of 2023
KYIV. April 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Astarta agro-industrial holding, the largest sugar producer in the country, began the spring sowing season 2023 with the sowing of sugar beet in Poltava region, the total area under spring crops is planned to increase by 1.3% compared to 2022, to 144,900 hectares.
As the company said on Wednesday, it is planned, in particular, to increase the area under sugar beet to 38,900 hectares from 33,000 hectares last year, soybean to 56,900 hectares from 40,000 hectares. However, almost halve them under corn and grew to 19,100 hectares from 38,000 hectares.
Some 28,200 hectares were given to sunflower (last year 30,000 hectares), and 1,800 hectares (2,000 hectares) to organic farming.
Astarta recalled that earlier it had sown 42,800 hectares with winter wheat and 13,800 hectares with winter rapeseed for this year’s crop, while a year earlier it were 55,000 hectares and 6,000 hectares, respectively.
Thus, the total area under crops this season should be 201,500, which is only 1.2% less than in 2022.
According to the agricultural holding, farmers have access to and work on all fields managed by Astarta.
