Around 5 mln Ukrainians return from EU to Ukraine – von der Leyen
KYIV. Sept 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Around 5 million Ukrainian, who had fled Ukraine after Russia’s full-scale invasion of their country on February 24, have returned from the EU to their Motherland, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has said.
More than 8 million Ukrainians arrived in the EU since the beginning of the war. However, many of them have returned home. Around 5 million people have come back to Ukraine, she said at a press conference with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Thursday, adding that the EU wants to provide those in need with as much assistance as possible, although it realizes that those people want to come back home and restore Ukraine, turn it into a prosperous state.
