Area under grains, legumes for 2023 harvest to decrease by 12.1%, oilseeds to grow by 11.6% – Agrarian Ministry
KYIV. March 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The area sown with grain and leguminous crops for the 2023 harvest is projected at 10.24 million hectares, which is 1.41 million hectares, or 12.1% less than in 2022, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reported.
At the same time, the agency noted that the area under oilseeds, on the contrary, is expected to grow by 920,000 hectares, or 11.6%, to 8.86 million hectares.
According to the data and forecasts of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in particular, the area under winter wheat crops will be 4.166 million hectares (down 834,000 hectares compared to the previous year), spring wheat – 285,000 hectares (up 67,000 hectares), winter barley – 536,000 hectares (down 255,000 ha), spring barley – 1.041 million ha (up 111,000 ha), corn – 3.618 million ha (down 451,000 ha).
At the same time, sown areas under sunflower are projected at the level of 5.641 million hectares (up 476,000 hectares), rapeseed – 1.374 million hectares (up 110,000 hectares), soybeans – 1.841 million hectares (up 334,000 hectares ).
It is also expected to increase the area under sugar beet by 40,000 hectares, or by 22.2% – up to 220,000 hectares.
