Any assessments should be given taking into account context of situation – Kuleba in response to Germany's concern over use of Bayraktar

KYIV. Oct 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine has no doubts that Germany remains a principled supporter of a peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in response to the German Foreign Ministry’s statement that it was concerned over the use of a Bayraktar-type drone by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"We communicate with our German colleagues, we have no doubts that they remain principled supporters of a peaceful settlement and are trying to help us end Russian aggression against our state, we are very grateful to them for this. But we are convinced that any assessments should be given taking into account the full context of the situation, and only then they are objective and allow the audience of these assessments to correctly perceive the situation," Kuleba said at a press conference following talks with Federal Adviser, Vice President and Chairman of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis in Kyiv on Thursday.

He stressed that Ukraine did not violate anything by using a drone. "We followed the necessary communication procedures through the Joint Center for Coordination and Control and with the OSCE in order to apply the right to self-defense," the minister explained.

"In the place of partners, I would be primarily concerned that the howitzer, which is prohibited by the Minsk agreements, was located where it should not have been – much closer to the contact line than allowed by the Minsk agreements. So, for some reason, when the howitzer is put close the disengagement line, our positions are fired and our soldiers are killed, this fact remains without proper assessment," Kuleba emphasized.

On Tuesday, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) used the Bayraktar reconnaissance and attack unmanned aerial system for the first time in the area of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) in Donbas on the orders of Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Valeriy Zaluzhny.
