Aliyev: Azerbaijan to export about 24 blm cbm of gas, including 11.6 bln cbm to Europe, in 2024

BAKU. Dec 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has announced Baku’s plans to increase supplies of gas to 24 billion cubic meters, including a minimum of 11.6 billion cubic meters to Europe, in 2023.

"Export of gas [to Europe] reached 8.2 billion cubic meters last year and 11.3 billion cubic meters this year and is expected to be about at least 11.6 billion cubic meters next year," Aliyev said at a plenary session on the signing of the Agreement on Strategic Partnership in Development and Transmission of Green Energy signed between the governments of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary, and Romania in Bucharest on Saturday.

"Overall, Azerbaijan is expected to export about 24 billion cubic meters of gas next year, for comparison, 19 billion cubic meters [were exported] in 2021," Aliyev said.

Mentioning the agreement on supplies of gas from Azerbaijan to Armenia starting on January 1, 2023, signed between Azerbaijan’s SOCAR state-owned gas and oil company and Romania’s Romgaz S.A. on Friday, he noted that Azerbaijan is expanding the geography of gas supplies to Europe, and it, in his view, is advantageous to both parties.

"It is a win-win situation, because Europe needs to strengthen its energy security, and Azerbaijan needs a reliable market to sell the tremendous amount of its energy sources," he said.
