Air traffic in Ukraine's airspace amounts to 83.8% of pre-quarantine level in Oct

KYIV. Nov 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A total of 25,090 flights were performed in the airspace of Ukraine in October 2021, which is 83.8% of the volume of flights in the same month of pre-crisis 2019, the press service of the Ukrainian State Air Traffic Services Enterprise (UkSATSE) said on Monday.

According to it, Ukrainian airlines performed 8,569 flights in October 2021 (12.6% less than in October 2019), and foreign airlines – 16,521 flights (less by 18%).

The structure of flights by type in October is as follows: domestic flights – 3,116 flights (more by 16.2%), international – 12,660 flights (less by 12.4%), and transit – 9,314 flights (less by 27.3%).

"The increase in traffic in the sky over Ukraine is mainly due to a growth in the number of flights in the Simferopol flight information region, where the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine has introduced an economically justified rate of charge for air navigation services since June 2021, and due to active work with airlines on the use of Ukrainian airspace transit potential," the press service said, citing UkSATSE head Andriy Yarmak.

At the same time, he notes that the industry has already entered the final phase of the tourist season, which will result in a traditional decrease in the dynamics of flights during the winter navigation period.

At the same time, according to UkSATSE, a number of airlines have already announced the continuation of charter programs to exotic countries, and also announced the opening of new destinations, which gives reason to expect that the country will pass the current air season according to an optimistic scenario.
