Adelaide opens potato storage facility for 15,000 tonnes with investment of UAH 100 mln in Kherson region – Agrarian Union
KYIV. Aug 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Adelaide farming enterprise (Chulakivka village, Kherson region) has put into operation in this settlement a warehouse for storing potatoes with a total capacity of 15,000 tonnes, investments in the project amounted to UAH 100 million, the website of the Association of Agrarian Union of Ukraine reported.
According to the Agrarian Union of Ukraine, the construction was financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and ProCredit Bank (Kyiv).
The Association clarified that the potato storage facility consists of 8 floor storage chambers, assembled from sandwich panels manufactured at the plant in Svitlovodsk, Kirovohrad region, and delivered to the installation site using barges.
It is noted that in 2022-2023 the farm plans to build the second stage of potato storage with a capacity of 15,000 tonnes, and in 2023-2024 – a plant for the production of French fries and potato flakes.
According to head of Adelaide Serhiy Rybalko, the Union says, the farm this year has reconstructed and rebuilt irrigation systems, replacing them with pivot irrigation systems. In addition, the farm switched to the cultivation of late varieties of potatoes.
"We switch to late planting, when potatoes are planted in June and harvested in October. This allows for a yield of more than 40 tonnes per hectare, therefore, a modern storage facility is required to store such a crop, which will allow storing all these potatoes," Rybalko said.
According to the data posted on the website of the farming enterprise, it cultivates 5,007 hectares in Kherson region, last year it received a crop of 25,000 tonnes of potatoes.
