Ukrposhta launches first automated parcel sorting line

KYIV. April 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – JSC Ukrposhta launched the first robotic line for sorting parcels in Kyiv, thanks to which it increased the processing speed and also its accuracy.

“Thanks to the introduction of the first conveyor to 64 destinations, we have increased the speed of processing small parcels from 400 pieces/hour to more than 8,000. Only one line can sort more than 150,000 parcels per day. This is eight times more than our workers manually processed before,” said Igor Smelyansky, the general director of Ukrposhta.

According to him, this year Ukrposhta plans to install at least four or five more new lines, and in the first half of 2024 – to completely switch to an automated sorting mode throughout the country.

Smelyansky noted that during the war the project was stalled because international companies were not ready to supply conveyor parts to Ukraine.

“And this is good, because there is a reason to be proud that this sorting line was created by Ukrainian developers – UISLabs, and more than 90% of its components were manufactured at ten different industrial enterprises in Ukraine,” the CEO added.

He noted that the lines were purchased at the company’s own expense as a result of a transparent tender. The selection of the contractor and the purchase of conveyor sorting equipment was carried out through the ProZorro e-procurement system. According to the ZákupkiProm website, the winner of the purchase announced in September was Ukrainian Intellectual Systems LLC (UISLabs), which offered a price of UAH 163.75 million, with a declared expected cost of UAH 164.57 million, or $4.5 million.

It was about the purchase of five sorting lines: three for small parcels with a capacity of up to 8,000 pieces/hour – in Kyiv, Lviv and Dnipro and two – for parcels with a capacity of up to 4,000 pieces/hour with the Put-to-Light technology – to Kyiv and Lviv, additional sorting equipment and spare parts, as well as maintenance for 4 years. The delivery dates for the lines are the first quarter of this year.
